Larue County is situated in Kentucky's central region, bordering the Bluegrass area. The county was part of Hardin County until 1843, when the state legislature intervened by dividing the southeast portion to form a new county. Authorities named it after John P. LaRue, an early inhabitant.
One of the main reasons tourists love Larue County is its rural setting, in addition to the warm and hospital weather. Additionally, the county has the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park, where Abraham Lincoln was born. This site is located in Hodgenville, the county seat. Other recreational areas include lake tours, swimming, and gold courses.

Larue County Clerk's Office conducts tax sales once a year, with the recent one having been held on 9th August 2022. These sales occur at the courthouse, and individuals must download and fill out the Certificate of Delinquency Sale Registration. Usually, you'll have to pay a registration fee of $250 on or before the stipulated timeline.

Records and Records Search

Keeping records of all transactions involving governmental bodies, including resolutions and ordinances, falls mainly on the shoulders of the Larue County Clerk's Office. Most of these documents pertain to marriage licenses, deeds, and the majority of other public records. In addition, the office offers permits for various parades and events.

How Does the Online Records Search Website Work?

The Kentucky Open Records Act requires various agencies and authorities to make open records accessible to the general public. In compliance, Kentucky, through the Clerk's Office, maintains an online records search website with two search options: Commercial Use and Private Citizen.
The Commercial User option focuses on businesses and individuals intending to access records for research and financial gain. The website is broad, allowing you to access records from other counties within the state. However, you'll have to pay a daily or monthly subscription fee.
The Private Citizen portal is limited to Larue County and has a limit of five daily searches per person. It is best suited for individuals seeking records for their own reasons without financial gain. In addition, there are no charges for the service. Interested persons can access the website and create accounts by following the four easy steps.

Motor Vehicles

Larue County Clerk's Office maintains a Motor Vehicle Division responsible for offering various motor vehicle services, including:

New Vehicle Tilting and Registration

This exercise requires you to provide the following details and documents:

  • Certificate of Origin (CO) duly transferred by the selling dealer and signed over to the purchaser.
  • A Serial Number Inspection Notice from the Sheriff's Office if you bought the car out of state. The lack of a notarized VTR will prevent the Sheriff from conducting the inspection.
  • You must include all policyholders' SSNs or the federal employer identification number (FEIN).
  • Title/registration application: Complete the whole consideration section if you want to use the full amount as your tax value.
  • Lien statement, if applicable
  • Insurance proof

Registration Renewal

License plates and stickers expire annually, and vehicle owners must renew them. Usually, the expiry date coincides with the owner's birth month. Upon expiry, the vehicle owner receives a renewal notification from the Kentucky Revenue Cabinet outlining the upcoming property tax and licensing fee obligations. Sometimes, vehicle owners may fail to receive the messages, but it's up to them to ensure they comply with the renewal requirements.
The following vehicles have expiry dates other than the owner's birthdate:

  • Farm Trucks
  • Trailers
  • Heavy Trucks
  • Recreational Vehicles

Other services accessible via the office include:

  • Taxes and Fee Payments
  • Transfer of a Kentucky Titled Vehicle
  • Permits and Tags

Visit the Clerk's Office at 501 High Street, Frankfort, KY 40622, for the above services. It's open for business from Monday through Friday, between 8 am and 4:30 pm. Authorities will require you to present the following documents during the process:

  • Insurance Proof
  • Proof of Registration and Property Tax Payment

Neighborhood Watch

The Neighborhood Watch Program focuses on making the county residents responsible for each other. Authorities believe that the crime elimination capability lies squarely on individual citizens, who should strive to check their neighbors' well-being. Through the program, county residents can report to law enforcement in case of suspicious behavior, including property theft.
For a successful program, there are various seminars and meetings by deputies to educate county residents on new crime prevention techniques. Notably, the office assures privacy and will not publicize any individual's personal information.
Interested individuals can download and fill out this form before submitting it to the Sheriff's Office. Afterward, you'll receive guidelines, including a phone number via which you'll communicate with the office.
